Live as children of light
Paul says something extraordinary: you were once DARKNESS — not just in the dark, but darkness itself.
But now you ARE light in the Lord! This is not just a poetic image — it is a complete change of nature. And children of light LIVE as children of light — the fruit of light is goodness, righteousness and truth — finding out what pleases the Lord.
Some things the world does casually — impure deeds done in secret, things shameful even to mention — Paul says have nothing to do with them. Why? Because light EXPOSES darkness — everything exposed by the light becomes visible, and even becomes light itself!
This is why it is said: 'Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.' Children of light don't need to hide in the shadows pretending — they get to live exposed, honest, and bright, because Christ's own light shines through them, and the world cannot help but notice.
