Run the Race!
A crowd cheering you on
Picture an enormous stadium, packed with all those faith heroes from chapter 11 — Abraham, Moses, Rahab, David — cheering from the stands! We are surrounded by this great cloud of witnesses, so let us throw off everything that slows us down, every weight, every sin that trips us up, and run with ENDURANCE the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on JESUS, who endured the cross because of the joy waiting for Him.
Then the writer talks about God's discipline. No discipline feels pleasant at the time — it's painful!
But just as a loving parent disciplines a child for their good, God disciplines those He loves, so that we might share in His holiness. Discipline produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those trained by it.
