Not one stone left standing
Leaving the temple, a disciple admired its massive stones. Jesus said: 'Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.' Privately, on the Mount of Olives, the disciples asked when this would happen. Jesus warned of false messiahs, wars, earthquakes, famines — 'these are the beginning of birth pains.' Believers would face persecution, but the good news must first be preached to all nations.
Jesus described a time of great distress unlike anything before, with false prophets performing signs to deceive even the elect — but He told them not to be alarmed; these things must happen first.
Then He spoke of the Son of Man coming 'in clouds with great glory' to gather His elect from the ends of the earth. Jesus compared this to a fig tree — when you see the signs, you know the time is near.
But 'about that day or hour no one knows... only the Father.' So Jesus' final command in this teaching: 'Watch! Be on your guard! You do not know when the owner of the house will come back... Therefore keep watch.'

The instruction to "keep watch" because "no one knows" the exact timing protects against both complacency and unhealthy obsession with predicting specific dates.
Conversation starters: (1) Why might Jesus emphasize watchfulness rather than giving an exact timeline? (2) What does it mean that "the good news must first be preached to all nations" before the end? (3) What does staying spiritually "awake" and "watching" look like in ordinary daily life?
