Then comes a real warning, framed almost like a story: imagine sinful friends inviting you, 'Come with us! Let's ambush someone, take their stuff, get rich quick — we'll all share the loot!'
The father's response is firm: 'My son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths!' He explains why their plan is actually foolish — those who set traps for others often end up caught in their own trap.
'Greed takes away the life of those who get it,' the proverb warns. Easy money gained through hurting others always costs more than it seems to offer.
This is one of the very first lessons in the whole book, and it's deliberately practical: wisdom shows up first not in deep theology, but in choosing your friends and your path wisely, before you're even old enough to fully understand why it matters.
