The Path of the Righteous, the Path of the Wicked
Two roads, two very different destinations
'Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.'
When you walk, the father promises, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble. Hold on to instruction; do not let it go — guard it well, for it is your life!
Then comes a vivid warning: do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way!
Why such a strong warning? Because wicked people 'cannot sleep till they have done evil' — they actually feed on violence and wrongdoing.
But contrast that with the righteous path: 'the path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the path of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.' Two paths, two destinies — one shines brighter and brighter, the other gets darker and darker.

Big idea: Proverbs repeatedly frames moral choice as a path or journey with cumulative direction, not a single isolated decision — the righteous path grows progressively brighter, while the wicked path grows progressively darker, "they do not know what makes them stumble." This pictures sanctification (and its opposite) as a trajectory, not a single moment.
Conversation starters: (1) What does it mean that the righteous path gets "brighter and brighter," not instantly bright? (2) Why might Proverbs warn so strongly against even setting foot on the wicked path, rather than just avoiding going too far on it? (3) What direction does your own daily path seem to be heading — brighter, or darker?
Pray for grace to walk firmly on the path that grows brighter, avoiding even a first step on the other.
